You are handing us your address, your phone number, and photographs of the inside of your home. This explains exactly what happens to all of it.

The short version: we collect what the job needs and nothing else, we never sell it, your data lives in Canada, and you can have it back or have it deleted by sending one email.

1.What we collect

If you book a move

  • Your name and email, from signing up.
  • Your phone number, if you give one. It is optional and used for move-day updates.
  • The pickup and dropoff addresses, what you’re moving, access details, and anything you write in the notes.
  • Any photos you add of what’s moving.
  • Messages between you and your mover.
  • Your booking and payment history. Not your card number — that goes straight to Stripe and never reaches us.

If you sign up as a mover

  • Your legal name, date of birth, address and phone.
  • Government photo ID, to confirm you are who you say.
  • Your consent to a Canadian criminal record check, and its result.
  • Your insurance certificate, if you have one.
  • Your rates, service areas, availability, profile text and photo.
  • Your banking details for payouts — held by Stripe, not by us.

We do not ask movers for a Social Insurance Number. Where tax reporting needs one, Stripe collects it directly and we never see it.

2.Why we collect it

To run the service you asked for: finding movers near you, showing accurate prices, passing your booking to your mover, letting the two of you talk, taking payment, and paying your mover.

To keep people safe: verifying that movers are real people with no relevant criminal record, and investigating when something goes wrong.

To meet legal obligations: tax records, and the consumer-protection rules that apply to this kind of business in Ontario.

We do not sell your information to anybody, ever. We do advertise, and measuring whether an ad worked means Google and Meta are told that a booking happened — including, for Meta, a scrambled version of your email and phone number. Exactly what that involves is set out below, and you can turn it off.

3.Who else sees it

The mover you book. They see your name, your addresses, your phone number if you gave one, your notes and photos, and your messages. They need all of it to do the job. Movers you don’t book see nothing.

The companies that run parts of the service:

  • Supabase — the database and file storage, hosted in Canada.
  • Stripe — payments and mover payouts. They hold card and banking details; we don’t.
  • Resend — sends our emails.
  • Twilio — sends our text messages.
  • Certn — runs mover background checks, with the mover’s written consent.
  • Google — address autocomplete. Google receives what you type in an address box.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads — which pages were visited and whether a booking followed, so we know which ads are worth paying for.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — the same, plus your email and phone number scrambled into a code Meta cannot read back, which is how it matches a booking to an ad you saw.

Each is given only what it needs for its part. We share information with police or a regulator only where the law requires it, or where somebody is in danger.

All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information won’t be shared with any third parties.

4.Text messages

A phone number is optional everywhere we ask for one, and giving us one does not sign you up for anything. Texts are a separate box you tick, it arrives unticked, and your booking works exactly the same if you leave it that way.

What we text about. Your booked move, and nothing else — when a mover replies, when they’re on their way, when the job is finished. Never marketing, never another company’s, and we don’t sell or share your number for anyone else to text you.

Stopping. Reply STOP to any message. It takes effect immediately and we’ll send one confirmation, then nothing. Your move carries on unaffected — we’ll email you instead. Reply HELP for our contact details, or START to turn texts back on.

Message frequency varies with how your move is going. Message and data rates may apply.

We keep a record of when you agreed, and the exact wording you agreed to, because your phone carrier can ask us to prove a number consented before it was texted.

5.Where it is kept

Our database and files are hosted in Canada — the Montréal region, chosen deliberately so your information stays under Canadian law and close to you.

Some of our suppliers process data in the United States. Information held there can be accessed by US authorities under US law, which is a real difference and is why the parts we control are kept here.

6.Photos of your home

Photos you add to a booking are stored privately. They are not on the public internet and they have no public address. Only you, the mover you booked, and My Mover staff investigating a problem can open them.

When one is shown to somebody entitled to see it, the link is created on the spot and expires within the hour. There is no permanent address for a picture of the inside of your home.

7.How long we keep it

  • Booking and payment records — seven years after the job, which is what Canadian tax law requires.
  • Messages and photos on a booking — two years after the job, then deleted. They exist so a dispute can be settled honestly.
  • Mover ID documents — deleted once identity is verified. We keep the fact of verification and the date, not the document.
  • Background check results — kept while the mover is on the platform, and for one year after they leave.
  • Declined applications — one year, so we can explain a decision if asked, then deleted.
  • Accounts that never booked anything — deleted after two years of inactivity.

8.Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you can:

  • See what we hold about you. Ask and we will send it within 30 days.
  • Correct anything wrong. Most of it you can edit yourself in your account.
  • Withdraw consent for things that are not essential, like text updates.
  • Ask us to delete your information.
  • Complain — to us first, and to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if we don’t put it right.

One honest limit on deletion: where you have completed bookings, we cannot erase the records tax law requires us to keep for seven years. What we will do instead is disconnect them from you — your name, contact details and addresses are removed and what remains is a job with a date and an amount. Everything else goes.

Email hello@mymoverapp.com for any of this. No form and no phone menu.

9.Cookies and measurement

Some cookies keep you signed in and remember what you were doing mid-booking. Those are not optional — without them the site cannot tell who you are, and nothing here can turn them off.

The ones you can turn off

We advertise on Google and on Meta, and the only way to know whether an ad produced a booking rather than a click is to tell those companies when a booking happens. So:

  • Google Analytics and Google Ads see which pages you opened, where you arrived from, and whether you booked. If you came from a Google ad, the id of that click is kept for 90 days so the booking can be matched to it.
  • Meta sees the same through its pixel, and its own cookies in your browser.
  • And our server tells Meta directly when a booking is made or paid. That message carries your email address and phone number put through SHA-256 — a one-way scramble. Meta does the same to the details on its own accounts and compares the two results, which is how it recognises you without us handing over the address itself. It cannot turn the scrambled version back into your email. It can tell that the person who booked is a particular Facebook account.

Say no and nothing above happens. Not loaded, not sent — the choice is read on our server before those scripts are sent to your browser, and a booking made while it is off is never reported to anybody. The site works exactly the same either way.

We do not advertise to you here, and nothing on this site is personalised based on any of it. This is measurement of our own advertising, and it is the only thing on My Mover that any of it is used for.

10.Keeping it safe

Everything travels encrypted. Access to your data is enforced by the database itself, not just by the website — a customer can only ever read their own bookings, and a mover only the jobs they were booked for, because the database refuses anything else.

ID documents and insurance certificates are kept in private storage that is not reachable from the public internet.

No system is perfect. If there is ever a breach that could put you at real risk of harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.

11.Contact

Our privacy officer can be reached at hello@mymoverapp.com.

If we haven’t resolved something, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

How we handle your information when you use the service is also covered by our Terms of service.

Questions about any of this? hello@mymoverapp.com. A person answers.

Back home

We use Google and Meta to measure which ads bring people here, which means those companies see that you visited and whether you booked. What that involves. You can say no and the site works exactly the same.
