Booking a mover shouldn’t depend on being able to see a screen or use a mouse. This page sets out how the site is built, what we know still isn’t right, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
1.Our commitment
My Mover is for everyone in Ontario who needs something moved. That includes people who use a screen reader, people who navigate with a keyboard rather than a mouse, people who need larger text or more contrast, and people who find long or cluttered pages hard going.
We build to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard named in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. We aim to meet it on every page, and we say below where we know we don’t yet.
2.What's built in
- Everything works with a keyboard. Every link, button, form field and menu can be reached and used without a mouse, in an order that follows the page. Where you are is always visible.
- A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content, so you don’t tab through the navigation on every screen.
- The address box is a real combobox. Arrow keys move through the suggestions, Enter chooses one, Escape closes it, and a screen reader is told how many appeared. It falls back to a plain text field if suggestions can’t load, so the form always works.
- Every form field has a label that is actually attached to it, and errors are announced rather than only coloured red.
- Text contrast meets AA against its background, and colour is never the only thing carrying meaning — a status is a word as well as a colour.
- Text resizes. The site is laid out in relative units, so browser zoom and larger default text sizes reflow the page instead of breaking it. Form fields are set at 16px so phones don’t zoom unexpectedly when you tap one.
- Images that carry meaning have descriptions, and decorative ones are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as noise.
- Motion is minimal and respects your system setting for reduced motion. Nothing flashes, auto-plays, or moves on its own.
3.What isn't right yet
A page claiming to be perfectly accessible is usually a page nobody has tested. These are the things we know about:
- The month view of a mover’s calendar is a grid, and grids are awkward with a screen reader. Every job on it is also listed underneath in date order, which is the version that reads properly.
- We have not yet completed a full audit with assistive technology users. It is planned before launch, and this page will be updated with what it finds.
- Some emails we send have not been tested in every screen reader. Every one of them has a plain-text version that always works.
4.Other formats and help
If anything on this site is hard to use, we will do it with you. Email us and a person will book your move, take your application, or read you a page — whatever is needed. There is no separate accessible phone line to be put on hold by.
We will also provide anything here — these policies, our terms, a quote, an invoice — in an accessible format or with communication support, at no extra cost, on request. Tell us what works for you and we will arrange it.
5.Telling us about a problem
If something blocked you, we want to know — it is the only way this page gets shorter.
Email hello@mymoverapp.com. Tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened. What you use to browse — a screen reader, voice control, zoom — helps but isn’t needed.
We reply within two business days, and we will tell you either how to get around it now or when it will be fixed. Feedback can be given in whatever way suits you, and we will respond the same way.
Questions about any of this? hello@mymoverapp.com. A person answers.
